How we plan a ride to hospital

In an emergency, call 112. The Rettungsstelle is the emergency department. This page is for planned rides.

Large hospitals have many entrances and long walking distances. That is hard for people in a wheelchair or with a walking aid. So before the ride we discuss the pick-up point and the building with you.

The pages and maps we read name no stopping place for transport services like ours. Some maps show spaces and access roads for patient transport or for patients arriving lying down ("Liegendanfahrt"). Please ask the hospital or the outpatient clinic where pick-up and arrival are best possible.

What to tell us in advance

  • Name of the hospital, building or outpatient clinic and the appointment time
  • Wheelchair, rollator or other aids
  • Whether a companion travels with you
  • Whether you need a return ride and roughly when the appointment ends

Accessibility according to the hospital directory

The Berlin hospital directory lists these points for the Charité, Vivantes Neukölln, Vivantes Am Urban and Helios Buch: a lift that can be operated from a wheelchair, visitor toilets for wheelchair users, barrier-free accessibility, and barrier-free access and entrance area. For the Charité this applies to all three campuses. For a planned hospital stay, Vivantes asks you to contact the clinic's office beforehand. The directory says nothing about individual entrances or routes on the grounds. We did not read the entry for the other hospitals.

Please note

The information comes from pages and maps of the hospitals. We read it on 22 October 2026. The date of each map is given for each hospital. Hospitals change access routes and entrances, especially during construction. Please call the hospital before the ride. The pages we read mostly do not say which entrance is barrier-free in the whole building. A P on a map is a car park. A disabled parking space is named only where it is stated explicitly.
