What is a medical ride?

A medical ride takes passengers to or from medical treatment when no professional medical care is required during the journey. PrimaFahrten offers these planned rides in Berlin. Qualified patient transport with medical care and emergency ambulance services are different forms of transport.

Whether a planned medical ride, qualified patient transport or an ambulance is required depends on the individual situation and cannot be medically assessed by this website. In an acute emergency, call 112.

Which appointments can you request a ride for?

Destinations may include medical practices, outpatient treatment, clinics, therapy or rehabilitation appointments. Recurring treatments can be planned as dialysis rides or therapy rides. For doctor and rehabilitation appointments, you can request our doctor and rehabilitation transport service.

Treatment appointment Combine the appointment, route and mobility needs

Treatment location, time, pick-up address and required assistance should be indicated together.

How a medical ride is planned

  1. You name pick-up location, destination, appointment time and a desired return trip.
  2. You describe mobility: Do you walk yourself, use a wheelchair or need help on stairs?
  3. PrimaFahrten checks the information and coordinates the specific journey with you.
  4. At the agreed time, the pick-up and the journey to the specified destination will take place.

If you wish to remain in your wheelchair during the journey, use the information for wheelchair transport in Berlin. If there are stairs between the home and the vehicle, you can also request the stair chair service.

What information belongs in the request?

Along with the journey times, tell us whether a wheelchair or another mobility aid is used, whether an accompanying person should travel and which access conditions apply at the starting point and destination. For recurring appointments, provide the schedule and expected period. This information supports an individual assessment; it does not replace a medical prescription or a commitment to cover costs.

Costs, prescription and approval

Whether and under which conditions German statutory health insurance covers transport costs depends on the individual case, medical necessity, the prescription and, where applicable, prior approval. PrimaFahrten does not promise reimbursement. Our guide to the Muster 4 transport prescription helps you prepare; binding information must come from the treating practice and the responsible payer.

Clarifications Check the prescription and ride request separately

Organising the journey does not replace a medical assessment or the payer's decision.
